But there's no need to get the cooked dishes - in fact, please don't (except the croquette).
I would recommend going to this place, but for the sushi only, although their fish choices are limited compared to a lot of LA places. My final impression was that this place has good sushi - good quality fish and all, but the cooked dishes were all. The fish is overcooked and tough, the sauce and the wild mushrooms added nothing. We also got some Black Cod with Wild Mushrooms and Daikon Pretty big croquette, and the filling and the crunchiness is great, but I wanted more seafood - or more flavorful seafood. There was a list of specials of cooked items, so we tried a couple of them. I don't know how it would be when his apprentice is making it, but we had a great experience with the owner as the sushi chef. I thought he had put a little too much rice for my taste, but again, the fish was good and fresh. The fish was pretty fresh, and the hamachi belly melts in your mouth. We started with some hamachi and the chef suggested some hamachi belly also (which obviously we took!) We started off with some cucumber sunomono, then started ordering our sushi. The place was practically empty at lunch and we sat at the sushi bar in front of the owner. Nonetheless, my friend convinced me a while ago to try out Sushi Murasaki, which had rave reviews (this is a backpost from long, long time ago). I mean, LA sushi is soo good and I was skeptical of OC sushi. We always love our trips to Genki, the bullet train, tablets, and colorful dishes make it a family fun night and we're glad one is still available to us so far from home.Usually I'm at a loss on where to eat in Orange County, and wouldn't even consider sushi. And you can never go wrong with some sweet tamago for kids! So worth it! Watch out for the Spicy Tuna, though, it's super spicy but yummy! My daughter loves the Agadashi Tofu "Fried Tofu" because of the silky tofu and the crispy but chewy coating. I recommend getting some hand rolls like the Spicy Tuna and Salmon Skin. Even though they were severly short staffed they made sure the 4 parties in the restaurant were well taken care of. Again, thanks go to Robert and what was probably only one other staff member in the kitchen. The first time we came they got it only half right so it was nice to have instructions relayed perfectly. We asked for a special order plain miso and we got exactly what we asked for. Staff, especially Robert who was there all alone in the front of house, were great, professional, courteous, warm, and friendly. Murasaki Home-made Ice Cream Black Sesame Green Tea w/ Pistachio Earl Grey w/ Oreo Cookies Seasonal Flavors (please ask server for seasonal selections) DRINKS. Different menu items to home and different ingredient usage and recipes in the staple items, but still exceptional for the price and quality. We're from Hawai'i where there are lots of Genki Sushi so we were ecstatic to find one of the few Genki on the continental US close by us in Santa Ana. I am definitely coming back with my husband. I’m very happy with the service and the food. I ordered the Chirashi bowl and the side dishes were delicious. Speaking of, the fish just melted in your mouth but I believe the rice was the star here. but having been waited on by people who were being genuine when they waited on you, that kind of service you can actually enjoy the food.
